• County of Kauaʻi call for artists: County of Kauaʻi Planning Department and Friends of Hanapēpē Monument invites statements of interest and qualifications for a public art installation to be located in Hanapēpē, Kauaʻi to memorialize and commemorate a piece of Hanapēpē history. Applications open through Monday, September 1, 2025. RFI and additional information are posted to the County of Kauaʻi website, kauai.gov.
• Hawaiʻi Craftsmen 58th Annual Statewide Exhibition call for traditional and contemporary craft. Registration closes August 31, 2025. For more information, please visit the Hawaiʻi Craftsmen website: HawaiiCraftsmen.org/ASE2025.
• Call for artists: Hawaiʻi Nei 2025. The Three Mountain Alliance, the Hawai‘i Island Art Alliance, the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and the Wailoa Center State Park are proud to announce Hawai‘i Nei 2025, a juried art exhibition celebrating the native flora and fauna of Hawai‘i Island. Hawaiʻi Island residents of all ages are invited to submit works of art celebrating the native plants, animals, and habitats of our beloved island, our Hawai‘i Nei. Entries due by October 10, 2025. • Call for artists: “Vessels: that which hold” exhibit, open to Hawaiʻi-based 2D and 3D artists in all mediums and styles. Submissions due by August 8, 2025. For more information and to enter, please go to the CallForEntry.org posting: 2025 Vessels.
• Call for photographers: "River to Richards: Documentary Photography in Hawaiʻi", celebrating the past and present of Honolulu's urban core. • “2025 Trash Show: Hawaiʻi Island Recycles” call for artists open to Hawaiʻi Island artists. All artworks must be made from post-consumer recycled materials, discards, throwaways, accrual, etc. Large 3-D pieces are encouraged. Submission deadline: September 12, 2025. • Call for artists: “Wings and Woodlands: A Tribute to Native Birds and Forests”, Kauaʻi Forest Bird Recovery Project, Birds Not Mosquitoes, Kauaʻi Endangered Seabird Recovery Project and Tree for Honolulu’s Future celebrate Hawaiʻi’s native manu through art. • East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center “36 Views of Mauna Loa” open call for artists January 1 - 31, 2026. Learn more on the EHCC website: ehcc.org/opencall/36views.
• Call for artists: Honouliuli Plans for 10 Year Remembrance of Internment in Hawaiʻi. Calling all artists to be part of an Art Exhibit planned for January for this remembrance. Each month the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai`i plans events to learn more. Many people in the interment camp turned to art as a way to endure the unbearable with dignity and patience – “Gaman”. • Honolulu Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts (MOCA) Call for Exhibitions: MOCA manages civic spaces inside Honolulu Hale such as the courtyard and Lane Gallery. These spaces are used to showcase the talents of visual artists and showcase the work of non-profit organizations and schools from our diverse community. Partnerships with community organizations have enabled MOCA to grace the halls of City buildings with a wide range of artwork displayed on a monthly basis. • Kahilu Exhibits at Kahilu Theatre (Waimea, Hawaiʻi Island) seeking exhibition proposals for the 2026 calendar year. As many as 6 proposals will be accepted to fill open exhibition slots from June through December of 2026. Proposals from solo artists, artist groups, collectives, and curators are welcomed. Exhibitions featuring all media are encouraged to apply including, by not limited to: painting, drawing, photography, fibers, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, video art, sound art, installation, new media, fashion, and traditional crafts. “How do I get my art into the Hawaiʻi SFCA public art collection?” Currently, most artworks for the SFCA Art in Public Places Collection are purchased from local art exhibits. Art Acquisition Selection Committees (AASCs) visit the exhibits and nominate artworks for the collection. Nominated works are then presented to the SFCA Board of Commissioners for approval. Below is a list of exhibits that the SFCA Board of Commissioners approved at the July 18, 2025 general meeting. • An AASC visited the “Wondrous Light: Aurora Borealis” exhibit at the Downtown Art Center in July and nominated four artworks for the SFCA Art in Public Places Collection. A version of the exhibit, a joint presentation by the Hawaiʻi Handweavers’ Hui and The Glass Fusion Collective, will be on view at the Wailoa Center in Hilo (Hawaiʻi Island) September 5 - 25, 2025. They have also shared videos about four invited artists: Joan Namkoong, Ghislaine Chock, Karl Hensel, and Bud Spindt.
• “MACC Biennial 2025” exhibition at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC), Schaefer International Gallery. Showcasing artists from across Hawaiʻi through new and contemporary work. Open through August 30, 2025. An SFCA Art Acquisition Selection Committee visit has been approved by the SFCA Board of Commissioners. • “Kahi Ching: Chinese Zodiac, Part 1” exhibit of drawings and paintings by artist Kahi Ching at Arts and Letters Gallery Nuʻuanu in Honolulu. Through August 31, 2025. • “Kuleana” exhibit at Gallery ʻIolani, Windward Community College. Featuring works by University of Hawaiʻi alumni or former or current faculty or staff. August 29 – December 12, 2025. • “My Monumental Summer: Live, Love, Paint” exhibition at Leeward Community College, Hōʻikeakea Gallery. Five artists create a monumental painting from start to finish.
