Sunset on the Beach Series Returns to Waikiki Starting May 11
Free family-friendly entertainment will include popular movies,

Hawaiian music, games and ono grinds

Residents in search of a little family-friendly fun this summer in Waikiki will be pleased to know that Sunset on the Beach is returning to Oahu’s famed south shore beginning Saturday, May 11. Funding for Sunset on the Beach is being made possible largely due to the support of Hawaii Tourism.

This popular summer series at Queen’s Surf Beach (across from the Honolulu Zoo) will start at 4:30 p.m., and feature live, Hawaiian entertainment beginning at 5 p.m. There will be a variety of exciting games for all ages, and a diverse mix of restaurants and food vendors selling their delicious creations. The evening will culminate with the showing of a hit movie on the 30-foot-wide big screen as the sun goes down around 7 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

“We’re excited to have Sunset on the Beach return for residents to enjoy,” said Chris Tatum, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority. “This event has been very popular since its inception with locals, and particularly families, who come to Waikiki to enjoy the beach and the ocean during the day, then stay into the night for festivities. We anticipate a great turnout this summer.”

This summer series which runs from May through September is presented by Southwest Airlines in partnership with Hawaii’s tourism industry, and with support from the Waikiki Improvement Association and the City and County of Honolulu.

“We are very proud to be a sponsor of Sunset on the Beach, and hope the kamaaina and visitors enjoy the experience,” said Bill Tierney, managing director of marketing for Southwest Airlines. “This partnership allows us to support the local islands we serve and bring the Hawaii communities together for a great family night.”
