Jim Hubbard Band Brings Fresh Folk, Rock, and Blues to Atherton July 12

The four-piece Jim Hubbard Band regularly performs the original music of Jim Hubbard at Honolulu-area clubs. On Saturday, July 12, they bring their synthesis of folk, rock, and blues to HPR's Atherton Studio in an evening themed "living for your dream." The concert features material from their fifth, soon-to-be-released CD What Could Be. Reservations may be made online at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaii Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Jim Hubbard is an accomplished Hawai‘i-based musician, singer and songwriter. His band includes Lisa Gomes on fiddle, Andrew McLellan on bass, and Scott Susag on drums.

Hubbard was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and attributes his music to influences he heard growing up in Flatbush. He is also a classically trained musician with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Hawai‘i.

Hubbard released Home Is Where The Heart Is in 1995. In 1999, Jim was awarded the Hawaii Music Award for Most Popular Folk Music Artist for his CD The Window of Innocence. His third release Noisy Dreams was a Na Hoku Hanohano nominee.

His following CD It Never Ends is a collection of stories written over a six-year period, during which Hubbard underwent treatment for, and ultimately triumphed over, cancer. The CD is comprised of eight new original songs, as well as his versions of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" and John Lennon's "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away."
