Trish La Chica Named Executive Director Of The Mayor's Office Ofhousing And Homelessness
Trish La Chica begins her role with the City and County of Honolulu on Jan. 24, 2022.
HONOLULU – Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced today his selection of Trish La Chica as the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Homelessness. La Chica will step into her role with the City and County of Honolulu on Jan. 24, 2022.
“Trish La Chica’s fifteen years of public policy, public health, and community engagement at all levels of government is truly admirable,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Her passion for public service and her proven track record in program strategy development and success in promoting those programs across demographics makes her ideal for the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Homelessness. We look forward to welcoming Trish to the City and continuing our work addressing the root causes of homelessness and increasing our community engagement and outreach.”
“I am extremely grateful to Mayor Blangiardi for this opportunity to serve. Growing up in the Philippines, there were many times when we struggled to pay for food, school, and medicine. Without the help of family to provide support, I could have ended up on the streets. My lived experience has taught me how to respond differently and to think of creative solutions to tackle the root causes of the issues that impact our most vulnerable. I am excited to join such a great team and continue the work that Director Krucky has started.”
“We anticipate the Office of Housing moving to the Department of Community Services and are looking forward to having Trish join our leadership team,” said DCS Director Anton Krucky. “In addition to her public health background, she also brings a strong track record in community engagement and coalition building that is critical to our building solutions that work with the State, our provider partners and the overall community.”
La Chica will be leaving her role as Community and Government Relations Manager at AlohaCare where she passionately served the people of Hawai‘i during the COVID-19 pandemic by improving access to healthcare and promoting whole-person health in the areas of housing and food security. It was at AlohaCare that La Chica was able to facilitate a $1M community reinvestment program to help Hawai‘i’s most underserved communities.
Prior to joining AlohaCare in February 2021, La Chica was the Policy and Advocacy Director for the Hawai‘i Public Health Institute, working closely with legislators and community stakeholders on issues affecting tobacco control, food security, health equity, oral health and other issues.
La Chica is a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She went on to earn her Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of San Francisco.
