CONTACT

CONTACT is a juried exhibition along with community programming that explores the notion of contact as it relates to the Hawaiian Islands, its people and their experiences. Contemporary artists of all ethnicities and ages will be delving into a variety of contact inspired messaging. This exhibit is coupled with programming that involves audiences, film and dialogues to make ‘contact" across opinions and perspectives.

The Exhibition opens to the public on Friday, April 11, 8 am -- 8pm. CONTACT is on view until Monday, April 21. Gallery Hours: Monday -- Friday, 8am -- 8pm; Saturday and Sunday, 10am -- 8pm Honolulu Museum of Art School at Linekona.

A full schedule of FREE educational programs examine CONTACT concepts in all facets of Hawai`i history and society, through films, a speaker series, performance and media interactions. Highlights include "The Haumana" -- a film by Keo Woolford and an author series around the publication The Value of Hawaii 2: Ancestral Roots, Oceanic Visions.

Artists and speakers share fresh perspectives in farming, government, voyaging, water rights, archaeology, gender advocacy, education, business, community health, art, immigration, to enhance the present and future value of Hawai‘i. Daily artist talks in the main gallery, an all day media discussion, a hana hou gathering of the community reading He Lei Hei Aloha with Meleanna Meyer as well as an open dialogue on the seminal work by John Dominis Holt entitled: On Being Hawaii. An in gallery knowledge share/bookshop is included in this comprehensive community experience.

Jurors for the exhibition are Jon Staub, Principal designer and art critic from Philpotts & Associate and Lawrence Seward, Artist and UH Arts instructor, Principal, All Art LLC.

CONTACT is sponsored by The Maoli Arts Alliance (MA`A), an initiative of the Pu`uhonua Society with assistance from ii gallery, Na Mea Hawai'I and the PROP Foundation.
